Dong Quai is a fragrant plant that is from the same botanical family of plants as carrots and celery. It’s scientific name Angelica Sinensis, but it’s also referred to as:

  • Female Ginseng
  • Radix Angelica Sinensis
  • Tai-Kui
  • Dang-Gui
  • Tang-Kuei
  • Chinese Angelica Root

There is not currently a lot of scientific literature on dong quai, but it has been used for as long as 2,000 years as a form of herbal medicine. There are a number of chemicals compounds in dong quai that are believed to be responsible for its medicinal benefit including:

  • Ferulic Acid
  • Angelicide
  • Ligustilide
  • Coumarins (like osthol)

Dong quai can primarily be taken in four  ways:
